It seems like sociologists are political scientists without the math?
No. Setting aside the vagaries of the historical emergence of fields, if anything political science is properly a subfield of sociology: it is the discipline concerned primarily with the state and other modes and institutions of government.
Crudely speaking, disciplines should be defined by their dependent variables, not by their favorite independent variables or their preferred methodological tools. But I may be in a minority in that respect.
