Mario RPG Yoko Shimomura

Despite the Mario RPG series seeing everything from changes in development teams, to updates in gameplay and characters, there is one element that has remained a familiar theme since Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars graced the SNES way back in 1996: the music. Even though the soundtrack to the Mario RPG games consisted of a combination of original tunes with classic Mario theme remixes, they captured the fun and quirkiness of the Nintendo franchise, defining the entire experience for many. For that, we largely have one person to thank: Yoko Shimomura.

Chrono Trigger Movie

In 2009 we put together this video for the TV stream we have here at the radio for the anniversary of Chrono Trigger. It is the full musical score that was done by Ocremix and their talented people set to video clips of the corresponding parts of the game. Before each video is the remixers name and their notes in making that track. Ocremix did a great job on this online CD and it is free for download from there site.

Theatrhythm Endorsed by Nobuo Uematsu

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy has received high marks in Famitsu and its two demos have been well received. But here’s the biggest endorser yet: Nobuo Uematsu.  The composer of many of the songs that are featured in the game wrote at Twitter today, “I played Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for the first time today. Not too shabby! As I remembered various things from the past 20 years, I was reduced to tears. FF music fans should definitely play it. Won’t you cry with me?”

Black Mages Darkness and Starlight Interview

The recording had already started when the idea of adding “Maria and Draco” came to me, and I decided to add it because I wanted to try something new with this album. I thought that it would be fun to add new lyrics and melodies and sing the vocals ourselves. Nothing has changed from when I was composing Final Fantasy VI. I always want the challenge of something new, and in those days, it was Opera. – Nobuo Uematsu
